FOS 2013-21: Stopping distance at photocell protection in car opening
Question: What is the maximum stopping distance allowed for the elevator when it is stopped by the action of the photocell protection in the car opening?
Answer: The stopping distance should not exceed 0.3 m at rated speed when the lift is stopped by the action of the photocell device. Comment: (Corresponding requirements for braking distance are found in the inspection of screw-driven lifts in Appendix 4 of the regulation.) The maximum deceleration forces to which passengers are exposed should also be taken into account if the photocell device is activated and the movement of the lift car before it stops can take place without danger to the passengers. This normally means that it is inappropriate to install photocell devices on lifts with rated speeds above 0.65 m/s, but this may also apply to lifts with lower rated speeds.
