FOS 2014-25: Inspection of load-bearing suspension elements for lifts
Question: What requirements apply to the inspection of load-bearing lifting devices for elevators, such as belt straps, plastic-covered ropes, etc.?
Answer: In cases where the manufacturer or installer has described how the load-bearing elements should be checked, e.g. by means of certain measuring equipment, special rejection criteria, etc. for e.g. checking belt straps, plastic-coated steel cables, etc., the check must be carried out according to the manufacturer's instructions or with another equivalent method. The manufacturer's product liability is based on its instructions/method. In some cases, the manufacturer also mentions what equipment is required to carry out the check. If the check cannot be carried out according to the manufacturer's instructions or another equivalent method, this is a deficiency with immediate significance for safety and health (3rd).
