FOS 2012-19: Protection against unwanted car movement in an elevator

Question: In which cases should protection against unwanted car movement with an open door at the landing according to EN 81-1/2+A3 points 9.11 and 9.13 be installed when rebuilding and changing or replacing a certain part according to BFS 2011:12 chapter 2 §1?

Response:

1. When replacing machinery or drive systems for electric lifts, additional equipment is required in accordance with EN 81-1 + A3, point 9.11.

2. When replacing hydraulic equipment for lifts that lack a descent barrier and instead have a pipe rupture valve with a return system, supplementary equipment is required in accordance with EN 81-2 + A3 section 9.13.

3. Hydraulic lifts with descent lock do not need to be further supplemented.

4. When replacing only the equipment rack or control system (control system according to BFS definition), no additional equipment is required according to EN 81-1/2 + A3 points 9.11 and 9.13.
