World Accreditation Day
June 9th is World Accreditation Day. A day that is celebrated around the world. This year's theme is sustainability in economic growth and the environment, with a focus on how accreditation supports several of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15.
World Accreditation Day is celebrated globally on the initiative of the two international accreditation organizations, the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), to highlight the importance of accreditation for quality and safety in everyday life around the world. The aim is to draw attention to why we can be safe when we ride in an elevator, drive a car or drink water from the tap.
Accreditation is based on a large international regulatory framework that means that goods and services are regularly checked according to international standards to ensure that both consumers and producers are confident that the quality is up to standard. Accreditation can be described as an authorization to perform a certain task. Almost all industrialized countries have a so-called accreditation body. In Sweden, it is the authority Swedac, which, after examination, accredits companies to perform a certain social task, such as car inspections or analyzing drinking water.
Many important societal functions are accredited or controlled by certified companies that are in turn accredited. That's where Swetic's members come in. It is thanks to our member companies that you can be sure that things are working as they should in society. Our members operate in areas such as control/certification of the food chain, CE marking, control and certification of the environment, safety and quality, inspection of elevators and escalators, control and certification of medical equipment, and certification of people.
